Asante on his way out of Philly

Just like I said in the past, the Eagles have been looking to trade Asante.  With so much depth at the cornerback position there is no point in keeping the aging athlete.  Asante is 31 years old, which in Andy Reid's mind, makes him old.  Andy is going to ship him out of Philly just like he did with Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent in the past.  This move also saves the birds over 9 million next season, which financially makes the move the right one.

NFL Rule Changes

Today, two new rule changes were voted on by the NFL owners and passed.  Just like last year's rule where all scoring plays are reviewable without a challenge, all turnover plays will now be reviewable without a challenge as well.  Also, the new playoff rule that was implemented last year will now be implemented this year during the regular season.  These two rules will make the games fair, and even more exciting for the fan!  Looking forward to the 2012-2013 NFL season.

Passion, makes a great Football Player.

Hey everyone, this post goes along with my last post about Tim Tebow, such a passionate guy about the sport of football.  He may not be the best quarterback to ever live right now, but he's the perfect role model for how football players should present themselves.  This video is only part one of a seven part series on youtube, I recommend you watch all seven parts.  You will be amazed at what you learn about the guy.  This series is one of my favorite ever on youtube.

Athletes should strive for the Tebow attitude

For those of us that watch ESPN, you have seen Tim Tebow criticized for his "poor" quarterback play last season when he took the Broncos to the playoffs.  It was a hot topic during the season, with analysts continually on the attack of the innocent guy, bashing his throwing motion and his accuracy. (rightfully so) Since then, Tebow was traded to the New York Jets, and much of the same criticism has been being talked about on a regular basis, after watching Tebow's press conference today I have the utmost respect for the young man.  He's ignored all the criticism over the previous months and continues to act like a professional.  The guy's got a great attitude toward the game, and strives to be a winner.  Both of which are lacking in Professional Football, most guys seem to care about the money.

Regardless of his statistics at the quarterback position, his team last season, the Denver Broncos won enough games to make the playoffs, and they were led by none other then Tim Tebow!  The guy is winner, and plays the game with passion.  He makes his teammates around him better, solely based on how he plays the game himself.  I wish I had the opportunity to play with such a great football player, who plays the game right.  More athletes that play football should strive to be like Tebow.

Jim Jackson visited West Chester University

This past week I got to hear Jim Jackson (Philadelphia Flyers Broadcaster) speak about media related careers.      He made me realize that if we have a dream, that we need to pursue that dream.  He left us with two words, perseverance and experience, he said we can do these two things we will be successful.

*Note* Jim Jackson has also been covering the Phillies since 2007, and in 2008 they won the world series, and the Phillies organization gave him a ring that he passed around, the one on the right in the 2008 world series ring, and the one on the left was then NLCS ring when they lost to series to the yankees.

Paper Teams

In professional sports you always have that team that looks good on paper, but doesn't always perform up to the expectations that are expected of them.  Take Philadelphia sports for example, The Philadelphia Phillies won the world series in 2008 with a sub-par pitching staff, since then they've added big names like Roy Halladay, and Cliff Lee, not to mention the couple years they had Roy Oswalt in the mix, but since 2008 the Phillies have failed to win another world series, even with the title of having "The greatest pitching staff in the history of baseball".  The Philadelphia Eagles were all hype in 2011 when Vince Young dropped the bomb "Dream Team" only to find out that they were just the opposite of that.

More and more teams have numerous superstars on them, making them look good on paper, but they do not always get the job done when everyone expects it.  Take the Miami Heat for example, Bosh, Wade, and King James, yeah they got to the championship but they lost.  This is happening in all the major professional sports (baseball, football, hockey, basketball).

I'm no expert but I do know that money can change a person.  Once these athletes get out of college and get paid millions of dollars, do they lose the drive to win?  Sports are played with passion, and frankly, sometimes professional sports look passionless.  If you build a team with an array of talent like the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Heat, these teams should be winning championships.  Until they do, these are teams I like to call "Paper Teams"  they look good on paper, but until they go out there on the field or the court and get the job done, that's all they'll ever be.

49ers are winning free agency

So far the San Francisco 49ers are the offseason winners when it comes to free agency.  They've signed Randy Moss and Mario Manningham, giving QB Alex Smith more weapons to go along with Vernon Davis and Frank Gore on offense.  The 49ers should be superbowl contenders next year.  Although I proclaim them winners in free agency now, the real winner will be the team that can sign Peyton Manning, who remains on the market.  The Seattle Seahawks went ahead and signed QB Matt Flynn so look for them to be out of the race.  Denver, Miami, Tennessee, and Arizona all seem to be in the running, ill keep you all updated.

Peyton Manning

It was no surprise when the Colts released Peyton Manning earlier in the week, they have the first pick and the draft and will most likely draft Luck, the bigger question is, where will Peyton end up next season?  Reports have shown many teams with interest in signing the former Superbowl champion, but a few teams seem to be the front runners, Arizona, Miami, and the Redskins.  I don't see Manning going to the Redskins solely because of the recent reports of the Skins trying to trade up to the Rams number 2 pick so they could take RGIII.  Realistically Peyton will probably end up in Miami or Arizona.  Miami has a shot to be a great team, their defense played great last year keeping them in most close games, the only problem was the quarterback position, if Manning decides to go to Miami look out for the Dolphins next year as they could compete for a Superbowl.  Arizona also makes sense for Manning's new home because of the fact that they play in a dome stadium (same as how Peyton played in Indy) and because of Larry Fitzgerald.  Every wide receiver dreams of having a quarterback who plays at an elite level like Peyton Manning does.  Manning to Fitzgerald could be a deadly combo next year.  I'm looking forward to seeing where Manning ends up.

Birds slap the tag on Jackson

*over-rated cry baby
Yesterday the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they placed the franchise tag on WR Desean Jackson.  Not much of a surprise, Jackson's a big part of our offense, but is he really worth the money?  Jackson made around 500k last year, but now with the franchise tag on him, he automatically will be making 9.5 million dollars next year....Is Jackson really worth that money?  That salary puts him in the average salaries of the top 5 receivers in the league, in my opinion hes definitely not worth it.  The guy's been scared to go over the middle since he got knocked out by a Falcons defensive back.  He hasn't been consistent enough for me to throw him in a category of top 5 receivers in the league, maybe top 20 if hes lucky.  The eagles could have spent the money elsewhere, like on defensive coaches/position players, somewhere where they actually needed to improve. I'm disappointed in this move, anyone else?
